The Hoptown Half Marathon & 5K will take place, Saturday, September 19, 2020 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. With CoV-2 looming, the race was in doubt. The Mercy Iron Mom Half Marathon, Relay and 5K in Paducah, Kentucky was cancelled earlier this year and moved to May of 2021.
After the race in Hopkinsville, there are several other locations in western Kentucky such as the Independence Bank 22K at LBL virtual event and the Dwain Taylor Murray Half Marathon, Relay, and 5K that will hold races this year. The Hopkinsville course starts downtown Hoptown through the streets of a scenic residential area, across the Christian County countryside, and will finish downtown by way of the Hopkinsville Greenway Trail. The Half marathon and 5K runner packages include a medal and a moisture-wicking performance shirt. If you haven’t been to Hopkinsville lately, it hasn’t changed much. Much of the residential living located at the edge of downtown and past Jenny Stuart Hospital is as beautiful as ever. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the Challenge House in memory of the late Hopkinsville Mayor Wally Bryan. The Challenge House relocates persons, couples, and families through faith to bring resources to underprivileged neighborhoods. Last year’s race drew 632 participants from 16 different states. The race starting line is 1001 S. Main Street. A prerace expo will be held on Friday, September 18 at Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex in Hopkinsville. The Independence Bank LBL Bridge to Bridge Run has been converted to a virtual event. There are divisions for individual, 2 person relay, and 3 person relay. Starting on the Canton side of the Lake Barkley Bridge and crossing into the beautiful Land Between the Lakes Recreation area. The course will follow the paved path along highway 80 until connecting with the Central Hardwoods Scenic Trail. Runners will stay on the Central Hardwoods Scenic Trail for the full distance of the trail ending at Fenton. The course will then connect with the Kentucky Lake Bridge where runners will cross and finish just west of Kentucky Lake along Highway 80. The David Taylor Chrysler Murray Half Marathon & 5K and Relay is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2020 in Murray, Kentucky. The Murray Half Marathon is a certified, one loop course with short, out-and-back segments in Central Park and at the relay exchange point on Opportunity Drive. The course was carefully laid out so that runners get to experience the best of Murray. Runners will visit beautiful historic downtown with a short stroll through Central Park. Runners are then guided along Murray State’s scenic campus before heading into a few of Murray’s friendliest neighborhoods and then back to the Murray-Calloway County’s Center for Health and Wellness. The route has a few small hills, but they are a nice break from the predominantly flat Kentucky terrain.
